Co-creation on the field with farmers
We’re developing GrainSense in close collaboration with those who will benefit the most from our innovation, the farmers.
In November, just when the first snow had covered the fields of Southern Finland in white, we visited Bosas, which is an animal farm and two grain farms – Kiala and Nygård.
The method is called design ethnography. Just like anthropologists, we went to the authentic farm environment to observe how actual farmers will use our prototype. They helped us understand their needs and pain points and they also contributed with several ideas on the design and the service. Some of the observations and improvements so far: The device is now black instead of yellow. It will have a carrying case. The screen of the device will have as big numbers as possible. The user interface of the app will have simple and self-explanatory symbols.
